Remo Buffalo Drums

We love the deep and grounding tones from this drum. Comfortable grip on the back.

Remo Fiberskyn Frame Drums

These have no backing grip so they are held from the frame. They have a very “active” sound, great for finger work and mallets. We use our 22-inch drum for both deep tones and rhythmic patterns.

Harmonic Chimes

We use a number of beech Heola Chimes, which are no longer made. Heola does offer metallic harmonic bells now. For wooden chimes, the most popular choice is made by Koshi. They are available in four different scales, tuned to 440Hz only.

Tuned Metal Instruments

Tongue Drum

Small and portable. We recommend buying a pack of drum gels that you can place on the drum to alter the sound, particularly to soften the tone.

Freenotes Wing

Standard models available in several scales in 440 Hz. Custom order to make your own scale, or if you want it tuned in 432 Hz.

Metal Bowls and Gongs

Gongs

There are many types of gongs. We use 16-inch and 24-inch wind gongs. The online retailer Gongs Unlimited has a huge selection of instruments with excellent recordings of each specific gong they offer.

Reed Instruments

Shruti Box

We use a 3-octave shruti box in 432 Hz. Usually these instruments are based on a C note; we chose a lower G version for more richness and warmth. They are also sold with one or two rows of notes.

Harmonium

We use a concert harmonium made by Bhava, in 432 Hz tuning.

Monochord / Monolina / Oneiric Harp

We built our own oneiric harp, but it is similar to the monolina made by feeltone. With 34 strings, most of which are tuned to the same note, this instrument produces a soothing sustained wash of sound when you sweep your fingers across it. A few bass strings add a tanpura-like effect.

Pythagorean Harp

A 13-stringed instrument that can be played in different ways: like a harp, a hammered dulcimer, or a monochord. It has moveable bridges that can be added to change pitches. Ours was built by Jim Doney, inventor of this instrument. These are no longer made, so they can only be found used.
